ARCHIVE &
IMAGE RIGHTS
Short version: it stays yours, your name stays on it, and you can withdraw it at any time.
You keep ownership
Contributing a photograph or a memory does not transfer it to us. It remains yours. What you give SRNagar.com is permission to publish it on this site and to keep it in the community archive, with your credit attached.
We do not sell contributions, licence them to anyone else, or use them in advertising.
Nothing is published straight away
A contribution goes to a volunteer, not onto a page. Before anything appears we will usually come back to you to confirm the year, the place and the names, often by asking two other people who were there. You will see how it reads before it goes up.
Credit
Anything you contribute from now on is published with the credit you asked for. If you would rather not be named, say so and we will publish it as an anonymous contribution. We will still record privately who gave it to us, because provenance is what makes an archive worth anything.
Some photographs already on this site came from the neighbourhood's own shared festival collection, where we have not yet been able to identify who took each one. Those appear without a credit rather than with a guessed one. If a photograph here is yours, tell us and we will add your name to it or take it down, whichever you prefer.
Photographs of other people
Old photographs usually contain people who are not you, and some of them are still around. We ask you to confirm that the photograph is yours to share, or that you have the permission of whoever it belongs to.
If someone in a published photograph asks us to remove it, we will, without requiring them to explain or prove anything.
Withdrawing something
Write to us and we will take it down. That applies whether you contributed it, you are in it, or it belongs to your family. We do not ask why and we do not keep a copy afterwards.
How the archive labels things
Every dated claim on this site carries its evidence state, so a reader knows how far to trust it:
- Sourced. Traced to a written record or public source, which is named on the page.
- Community account. Recounted by residents and consistent across accounts, but not yet corroborated against a document.
- Archive in progress. We have nothing yet. The entry describes what we are asking for rather than filling the gap with a guess.
When a date cannot be supported, we leave it open. We would rather publish less than print something that may be repeated as fact.
Copyright complaints
If something published here is your work and you did not agree to it being used, tell us and we will take it down while we sort it out. We will not ask you to prove ownership before removing it.
Contributing
Share a memory. One photograph and one paragraph is enough to start.
